A 13-year-old boy died in hospital after Friday's accident at l'Arrabassada Beach, bringing the death toll to two.
The events took place Friday afternoon around 15:30 in a rocky area of l'Arrabassada Beach in Tarragona. Six young people had trouble exiting the water while a yellow flag was flying. Three exited on their own and three were rescued by emergency services.
Of those rescued, a 12-year-old died at the scene and two 13-year-olds were taken to Joan XXIII Hospital in critical condition. One of them died in the following hours.
President of the Generalitat Salvador Illa expressed sadness on social media and conveyed condolences to the families. He thanked the work of the Sistema de Emergencias Médicas and the hospital.
