A three-year-old boy has died on Saturday in Hospital Universitario Son Espases in Palma after being rescued unconscious from a pool in Can Picafort on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 16:30 on Friday when a person close to the family found the child unconscious inside the pool of a vacation home in the municipality of Santa Margalida. Emergency services were alerted immediately.
Officers from the Policía Local de Santa Margalida, the Guardia Civil and the SAMU 061 responded to the scene. Medical staff reanimated the boy before transferring him by helicopter to the main hospital in the Balearic Islands.
The child was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with a reserved prognosis. The severity of injuries from the drowning ultimately caused his death, according to information gathered by Europa Press. The boy belonged to a Danish-origin family.
