Serena Williams is set to compete at Wimbledon for the first time in four years, facing Maya Joint in the singles first round. Former pro Annabel Croft has expressed confidence in the 44-year-old's ability to make a deep run on the grass surface where she has won seven titles.
Williams will also partner with sister Venus Williams in doubles, with the pair scheduled to face Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio on Thursday.
Croft highlighted Williams' record of 23 Grand Slam titles and her seven Wimbledon victories while speaking on the BBC. She noted that Williams may aim to reach 24 major titles, adding that the American "really does think with a champion’s mind that maybe she could win Wimbledon again."
The 44-year-old holds a 98-14 win-loss record at the tournament and an 87 percent success rate on grass. Her path includes potential second-round and third-round matches against Alexandra Eala and defending champion Iga Swiatek if she advances.
