Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said on May 29 that South Korea has asked Singapore to support efforts to create conditions for dialogue with North Korea. Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan visited Seoul after trips to China and North Korea.
Cho said in an interview with Yonhap News Agency that South Korea has fully conveyed its willingness for dialogue and its policy for peace through Singapore. He expressed belief that North Korea will eventually respond to efforts to ease tensions.
Balakrishnan met North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui during his visit to Pyongyang from May 27. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and regional matters.
Cho noted that the possibility of U.S.-North Korea talks always remains open if Washington offers a good deal. He also said working-level consultations on revising the civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with the United States are proceeding smoothly.
