Director and actor Staffan Westerberg has died. His family confirmed the death to Sveriges Radio’s Kulturnytt.
Staffan Westerberg was 92 years old. He was born in 1934 in Luleå and later moved to Stockholm to work in theatre. He is best known for the children’s programme Vilse i pannkakan, which aired on SVT in 1975.
Westerberg faced criticism in the 1990s for his children’s programmes and was called ”the man who destroyed a whole generation”. In a 2024 interview he said the period made him very sad, though he had only wanted to entertain children.
He worked extensively with Teater Brunnsgatan 4 alongside poet Kristina Lugn. His final performance was the revue Har vi kapacitet, madame at Löfnäs Gård in Sundborn in 2025. Norrbottensteatern is scheduled to stage Kabaré solstugan this summer.
