A 7th-grade student assaulted a pedagogue with punches and hair-pulling at Escola Municipal Dom Oscar de Oliveira in Mariana, Minas Gerais, after being scolded for cutting the line during the quadrilha dance.
The incident took place during the school’s Festa Junina. The pedagogue called the student’s attention for cutting the line, prompting the physical assault. The event was halted, military police were called and a police report was filed.
Mayor Juliano Duarte condemned the attack and stated that the administration will not tolerate violence against public servants. “Our administration repudiates any type of violence against public servants, especially when it happens inside a school and against a teacher,” he said.
Mariana city hall announced the student will be transferred to another school and will receive psychological support, as will her family. The Municipal Secretariat for Social Development will provide assistance. Teachers from the municipal network also issued a repudiation note and called for zero tolerance of school violence.
