Suigi shaves seconds off own Super Mario 64 speedrun record

Speedrunner Suigi has set a new world record for the 120-star run in Super Mario 64, completing it in 1:35:25 on April 12. The 20-year-old improved on his previous best time of 1:35:28 from November 2024 by 2.6 seconds during a Twitch stream. Despite feeling exhausted after hours of attempts, he pushed through for the achievement.

Suigi achieved the record after streaming for six hours, including four hours of practice and five aborted runs. He had declared himself “cooked” — too tired to continue — following a 1-hour-20-minute attempt marred by mistakes, including a triple-jump failure. Yet he started one more run out of habit, which proved successful despite early setbacks. An hour in, he trailed his prior record by 21 seconds but called it “still very doable.”
