Tom Hanks has suggested that Disney might use artificial intelligence to generate new dialogue for his character Woody in a potential Toy Story 6 without his direct involvement.
The actor, who reprises the role in the current Toy Story 5, addressed the topic in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He noted that the studio has decades of his recorded lines available in digital form.
"Every word we have ever recorded in time in 'Toy Story' is on digital media somewhere, so they could put together anything they would want," Hanks said. He added that any future film should offer fresh themes rather than simply extend the franchise.
Hanks and co-star Tim Allen both described the prospect of AI-generated performances as "a scary thought." Toy Story 5, which opened to a franchise-record $312 million worldwide, is now playing in theaters.
