Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 is on track for a franchise-best domestic opening of $160 million to $170 million this weekend.
The film earned $71 million on Friday across 4,425 theaters, including $17.5 million in previews that set a new record for the series and rank as the second-highest ever for a Pixar movie.
Directed by Andrew Stanton, the sequel features returning voices including Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, along with new additions such as Greta Lee as Lilypad and Bad Bunny as Pizza with Sunglasses.
International markets contributed an early $26 million, led by Mexico with $6.7 million. The movie holds a 94 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Taylor Swift's song "I Knew It, I Knew You" helped drive social media reach to 711.8 million impressions ahead of release.
