The Minnesota Twins have placed left-handed reliever Anthony Banda on the 15-day injured list with a left lat strain. The injury, suffered in Sunday's win against the Rockies, is expected to sideline him for months.
Manager Derek Shelton confirmed the severity of the injury Monday ahead of a road trip to Houston and New York.
"It’s going to be something that he’s going to miss significant time with," Shelton said. "It’s not going to be days, weeks. It’s going to be months."
The Twins recalled right-hander Cody Laweryson from Triple-A St. Paul to fill the roster spot. Laweryson had been optioned on June 23.
Banda, 32, posted a 4.46 ERA overall this season but improved to a 1.00 ERA in 20 appearances since May 10. The move leaves the Twins with only two left-handed relievers in the bullpen.
