The Seattle Mariners placed reliever Matt Brash on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain before their game Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. The move came as Colt Emerson showed progress in his recovery from a back spasm.
Brash was sidelined for the second time this season with the same injury. He had posted a 0.54 ERA in 16 2/3 innings across 20 outings before the placement. Emerson, the Mariners' top prospect, missed his third straight game but took swings in the batting cage for the first time since the spasm. Manager Dan Wilson said Emerson could be available off the bench and might return to the starting lineup Thursday. The Mariners made additional roster moves Wednesday. They reinstated infielder and outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni from the 60-day injured list, recalled right-hander Domingo Gonzalez from Triple-A Tacoma, optioned infielder Ryan Bliss to Tacoma and designated right-hander Yosver Zulueta for assignment.
