The Baltimore Orioles have placed closer Ryan Helsley on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow discomfort. The move came Friday ahead of their series opener in Cincinnati.
Helsley experienced the discomfort while warming up in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox. He did not pitch in that game.
This marks Helsley's second stint on the injured list this season after an earlier absence from May 1 to June 16 with right elbow inflammation. Manager Craig Albernaz said the pitcher is reviewing options and gathering information following an MRI.
The Orioles recalled right-hander Anthony Nunez from Triple-A Norfolk to bolster the bullpen. They also recalled infielder and outfielder Jeremiah Jackson from Triple-A and designated catcher Chadwick Tromp for assignment.
In Helsley's absence the team expects to handle late-inning situations with a committee approach involving pitchers such as Tyler Wells, Yennier Cano and Grant Wolfram.
