Police have named a 19-year-old student at Universitas Negeri Semarang as a suspect following a report of alleged sexual harassment via electronic messages.
Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit at Semarang Police, Kompol Ni Made Sriniti, said the naming of suspect MFA took place on Friday after investigators gathered sufficient evidence.
The main evidence consists of screenshots of conversations allegedly containing elements of sexual harassment. The victim is a female student at the same university who reported an incident on Wednesday 17 June 2026 when the suspect ordered parcel delivery services.
The suspect was charged under Law Number 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes but was not detained because the maximum penalty is less than five years. He is only required to report periodically.
Police have coordinated with the university's Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force and received additional reports from other victims involving the same perpetrator.
