Engineers at Valve have stated that RAM shortages affecting Steam Machine production are intensifying, with retail supplies lagging behind bulk availability by three to six months.
Yazan Aldehayyat and Pierre-Loup Griffais, two of Valve’s top Steam Machine engineers, made the comments in an interview with Bloomberg.
Aldehayyat said the extent of sourcing problems exceeded expectations. He added that the situation continues to deteriorate.
Griffais noted that the company is building as many units as possible but remains limited by memory capacity. The engineers also referenced an earlier interview last month in which Griffais described the lack of long-term contracts with DRAM suppliers.
A class action lawsuit against Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron Technology remains ongoing.
