Xbox executive Asha Sharma has acknowledged that ongoing memory shortages will affect the pricing and availability of the next-generation Project Helix console. In a recent interview, she stated that the company is not ready to announce a launch timeline amid the dynamic market conditions. Sharma emphasized focusing on factors within Xbox's control.
Asha Sharma, the head of Xbox, addressed the RAM crisis during an interview with Stephen Totilo of Game File. She directly stated, “Memory costs will impact pricing, will impact availability.” Sharma added, “As we think about being where the world plays, we will take that into consideration. So we're not ready to share a launch timeline right now. The world's pretty dynamic.” She noted that the team is concentrating on “what's in our control.” The shortages, driven by AI demands, have already prompted changes elsewhere in the industry. Valve has adjusted release plans for its Steam Machine and Steam Frame, while Sony has revised its next-generation console strategy. Industry predictions point to the memory issues persisting until late 2027 or early 2028. Xbox has seen rapid developments since Sharma's arrival, including a new logo and a Game Pass price reduction. These come after recent discussions where Sharma did not rule out bringing back exclusive games. Her cautious approach reflects broader challenges facing console makers.
