A 22-year-old New York woman was arraigned Tuesday on second-degree murder charges after police said she fatally stabbed a longtime friend in the neck.
Kristin Sculley appeared in Nassau County court the day after the incident at a Massapequa home. She pleaded not guilty to the charge. Police said Sculley and 28-year-old Robert Carragher had spent hours together on May 31 before the attack after midnight. According to officials, Sculley used a knife she brought and stabbed Carragher while he was in bed, puncturing an artery. Carragher ran upstairs screaming for his mother and collapsed in the kitchen. He died in his father's arms, detectives said. Officers arrived around 1:30 a.m. and found Sculley hiding inside the house. A pocketknife believed to be the weapon was recovered. Sculley's attorney noted that self-defense could not be ruled out. She is scheduled to return to court on June 4.
