Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered a dominant complete game to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-2 victory over the New York Yankees in the early game of a split doubleheader at Yankee Stadium.
Yamamoto held the Yankees to two runs over nine innings, striking out seven without issuing a walk. He allowed just four hits in the outing, his first regular-season complete game in the majors.
Cam Schlittler started for the Yankees but was removed after 4 1/3 innings after surrendering three runs. The Dodgers added five more runs in the eighth inning against the Yankees bullpen.
Trent Grisham hit a solo home run for New York's only other run. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted the team's recent offensive struggles, saying they have lost nine of their last 10 home games.
The win gave the Dodgers at least a series victory to open the second half of the season.
