Yannick Hanfmann advanced to the semifinals of the Generali Open in Kitzbühel with a straight-sets victory over Sebastian Baez. The German player also dealt with strong winds during his post-match interview on court.
Yannick Hanfmann defeated 2023 champion Sebastian Baez 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. The win marked his 22nd career match at the Austrian event and pushed his ranking to world No. 52.
The 34-year-old became the oldest semifinalist in the tournament's history. He has yet to drop a set in the event after earlier wins over Lukas Neumayer and Marco Trungelliti.
Strong gusts interrupted the on-court interview as wind blew clay across the court and knocked over a sponsor board. Hanfmann held the board steady while the interviewer continued the exchange.
He is scheduled to face Quentin Halys in the semifinals. Hanfmann has never won the tournament despite reaching the final in 2020.
