2K has launched a limited-time test of an untitled Borderlands mobile project on iOS devices. Developed by Zynga's NaturalMotion studio with creative guidance from Gearbox, the free-to-play looter shooter appeared on the App Store without prior announcement. The company seeks player feedback on this new experience.
Borderlands Mobile, serving as a placeholder name, became available for free download on the iOS App Store on April 9. Deal spotter Wario64 first highlighted its presence, noting it as a mission-based looter shooter optimized mainly for iPhone. Players on larger screens like iPad must use a full-screen option to adjust the display properly. The game launched quietly, with no trailers or posts from the official Borderlands Twitter account as of that morning, and limited character options—only the Siren was selectable without customization. An introductory video suggests the story follows events after Borderlands 3 but precedes Borderlands 4. 2K provided a statement confirming the details: “We are always exploring ways to introduce Borderlands to new audiences. Zynga’s NaturalMotion studio is currently conducting a limited-time test for an untitled Borderlands mobile project, with Gearbox providing creative guidance on the franchise’s design, history, and lore. We hope that players enjoy this new Borderlands experience and look forward to their feedback.” This soft launch appears designed to gauge reception before any broader rollout.
