Aliança Catalana has withdrawn Arnau Liesa as its candidate for Figueres town council after learning of a personal relationship the party deems incompatible with its principles.
The party made the decision unanimously after learning of the situation, which Liesa had not previously disclosed. Liesa himself confirmed in a statement that he is in a relationship with a young woman over 16 whom he met as his student.
Liesa, aged 30, explained that the relationship has been public in his personal circle since the start of the year and that he resigned his teaching position before beginning it. He admitted he had not sufficiently considered the impact on the party's image and chose to voluntarily withdraw from all his roles.
Aliança Catalana thanked Liesa for his voluntary resignation and stated it will continue working to present a solid and honest candidacy in Figueres.
