Analyst says Steelers have NFL's worst recent first-round history

Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft selections this decade rank as the worst in the NFL, according to analyst Mike Renner.

Renner made the claim Wednesday on his Pushing the Pile podcast while discussing an upcoming ranking of all 191 first-round picks since 2020.

The Steelers' selections include running back Najee Harris, quarterback Kenny Pickett, offensive tackle Broderick Jones, offensive tackle Troy Fautanu and defensive lineman Derrick Harmon. Renner noted that the team has not extracted meaningful production from these players.

He pointed to the current roster relying on veterans such as 37-year-old Cam Heyward, 32-year-old T.J. Watt and 30-plus-year-old Jalen Ramsey. Earlier first-round choices Terrell Edmunds and Devin Bush also failed to last beyond their rookie contracts.

Fautanu and Harmon have shown some promise in recent seasons, though Renner maintained that the overall track record remains poor.
