Aroldo Medina, a former member of the Brigada Militar, was announced on Wednesday as the vice-presidential pre-candidate alongside Renan Santos of the Missão party for the October elections.
Medina, aged 62, served for 29 years in the Rio Grande do Sul Brigada Militar before retiring in 2015 as a lieutenant colonel. He also headed the state Civil Defense from 2003 to 2006.
The announcement took place during Renan Santos's schedule in Rio Grande do Sul. In a letter on his blog, Medina thanked the nomination and praised the presidential pre-candidate.
Medina has run in several elections without success, including bids for governor in 2002 and 2010. He has maintained an active blog since 2009 and a presence on social media, where he comments on topics such as public security.
