Arthur Fery defeated Damir Džumhur in four sets during the Wimbledon first round on June 30. The British player secured a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 victory while managing several interruptions.
The match featured on-court tension when Džumhur disputed a let call in the second set. The Bosnian argued that Fery's return clipped the net and demanded a replay, leading to extended discussions with chair umpire Greg Allensworth.
Fery inserted earplugs during the argument to remain focused. He later explained that he did not hear any let call and proceeded with play as instructed by the umpire.
Fery also dealt with a nosebleed in the third set that required a medical timeout. He said such incidents occur frequently and may relate to nerves or heat, though he resumed without issue after treatment.
The win made Fery the only British man to reach the second round at the All-England Club so far this year.
