Bolsonaro allies take presidency of Alerj Human Rights Commission

PL deputies elected Alexandre Knoploch to lead the Human Rights and Citizenship Commission of the Rio Legislative Assembly, replacing PSOL's Dani Monteiro.

The commission, traditionally led by left-wing lawmakers, has now come under Bolsonarista control. Knoploch announced he will review past cases and archive documents deemed ideologically biased.

He stated that all police officers will be presumed innocent until a final judgment. The deputy also plans to inspect prisons to assess the treatment of incarcerated officers.

The shift is part of an offensive led by Douglas Ruas, Alerj president and pre-candidate for governor. PSOL also lost the presidency of the Women's Rights Defense Commission to Sarah Poncio of SDD.

The dispute included mutual criticisms, such as a CPI request on investments in Banco Master and disagreements over nominations to the State Court of Accounts.

The report was defeated 6-4 after changes in the commission's composition. The substitutions favored government-aligned members, swaying the vote outcome.
