Daryl Hannah, who dated John F. Kennedy Jr. before his marriage to Carolyn Bessette, has publicly condemned her portrayal in FX's 'Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette'—the anthology series that premiered on Hulu and FX in February 2026, as previously covered.
In her New York Times guest essay titled 'How Can ‘Love Story’ Get Away With This?', the 65-year-old actor described the depiction as 'not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct or my relationship with John.' She called her character 'irritating, self-absorbed, whiny and inappropriate,' noting it has led to hostile messages from viewers mistaking fiction for fact. 'It’s appalling to me that I even have to defend myself against a television show,' she wrote. 'These are not creative embellishments of personality. They are assertions about conduct—and they are false.'
Hannah specifically denied: using cocaine or hosting related parties; pressuring anyone into marriage; desecrating family heirlooms or intruding on memorials; planting press stories; or comparing Jacqueline Onassis’ death to a dog’s. She generally avoids responding to media distortions to prevent amplification.
Executive produced by Ryan Murphy, the series—starring Paul Anthony Kelly as Kennedy, Sarah Pidgeon as Bessette, and Dree Hemingway as Hannah—continues weekly releases, with a finale set for March 26. Kennedy family member Jack Schlossberg has also criticized it as fiction, urging donations of profits to Kennedy-supported causes.
