Dennis Locorriere, founding member and frontman of the 1970s soft rock band Dr. Hook, has died at the age of 76 after a long battle with kidney disease. He passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. The news was confirmed by statements from the band and his management.
Locorriere co-founded Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show in 1969 in New Jersey. He started as the band's bassist and lead singer before becoming its primary frontman. The group achieved major success with hits such as “Sylvia’s Mother,” “The Cover of ‘Rolling Stone,’” “When You’re in Love with a Beautiful Woman,” and “Sharing the Night Together.” They worked closely with songwriter Shel Silverstein on early albums and later shortened their name to Dr. Hook.
