Dragon Chilling maintained its unbeaten record and took sole first place after day two of the 2026 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships in Hong Kong.
The Chinese team defeated Kazchess in a key early match despite GM Ding Liren losing a 177-move game to GM Richard Rapport. GM Yu Yangyi reached 5/5 after a blunder by GM Alexander Grischuk, and 13-year-old GM Wang Zihao scored 6.5/7 to help secure the win.
Team MGD1 moved into sole second place by beating top-seeded WR Chess 3.5-2.5, with GM Arjun Erigaisi defeating world number one GM Magnus Carlsen on board one. Carlsen lost again later to GM Shant Sargsyan before sitting out the final round.
WR Chess dropped a third match of the day to Barys, where GM Peter Svidler beat GM Fabiano Caruana. Dragon Chilling holds a one-point lead overall and a four-point advantage over WR Chess, which has fallen to 11th place.
Day three is scheduled to begin Friday, June 19, at 2 a.m. ET.
