كثفت مصر جهودها الدبلوماسية لاحتواء التوترات المتصاعدة بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران من خلال مشاورات إقليمية رفيعة المستوى.

أجرى وزير الخارجية المصري بدر عبدالعاطي اتصالات هاتفية منفصلة مع نظيره السعودي الأمير فيصل بن فرحان ووزير الخارجية الإيراني عباس عراقجي ورئيس الوزراء القطري الشيخ محمد بن عبدالرحمن آل ثاني.

ركزت المناقشات على تطورات المفاوضات بين واشنطن وطهران مع التأكيد على تجنب التصعيد غير المحسوب.

ناقش أمير قطر تميم بن حمد آل ثاني مبادرات خفض التصعيد مع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب يوم السبت بما في ذلك جهود الوساطة الباكستانية.

أكد وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو أن إيران لا يمكنها امتلاك سلاح نووي بينما أشار الرئيس الإيراني مسعود بزشكيان إلى ضرورة الحذر في التعاملات مع واشنطن.
