Egypt sees strong demand for healthcare investments says GAFI

Mohamed Awad, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, said strong domestic and international demand exists for investment in Egypt's healthcare sector, especially in facility management and medical tourism.

Awad made the remarks in a meeting with Ahmed El Sobky, Chairperson of the General Authority for Healthcare. The discussion focused on ways to draw more investment into the sector to improve services for citizens.

El Sobky noted that closer cooperation would speed up the rollout of the Universal Health Insurance System. He said the private sector would play a larger role as a partner in healthcare delivery.

The General Authority for Healthcare plans to diversify investment models through contracts, outsourcing and new facilities. It also intends to launch a specialised investment fund for the construction, operation and management of healthcare facilities.

Awad said GAFI would promote these opportunities on Egypt's Investment Map and in its campaigns. The two authorities agreed to form a joint working group and prepare a formal cooperation protocol.
