Eintracht Frankfurt parts ways with coach Albert Riera

Eintracht Frankfurt has ended its cooperation with head coach Albert Riera after just three and a half months. The decision came one day after a 2:2 draw against VfB Stuttgart on the final matchday.

The club announced the split after the team had gone five games without a win. Eintracht finished the season in eighth place and missed European qualification for the first time in six years.

Sporting director Markus Krösche said: »After intensive discussions we jointly decided to end the cooperation with immediate effect.« He noted that Riera had taken over in a difficult phase and shown great commitment.

Riera, who replaced Dino Toppmöller on February 1, took responsibility for the results. Eintracht earned an average of 1.21 points per game in his 14 matches. Relations with some players and fans had become strained in recent weeks.
