RB Leipzig faced 1. FC Union Berlin on Friday evening and won 3-1 (2-0). Max Finkgräfe scored the opener in the 22nd minute, with Rômulo making it 2-0 three minutes later. Union's goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow was substituted injured after about 30 minutes.
In the second half, Ridle Baku capitalized on a counter to score 3-0 in the 63rd minute. Danilho Doekhi headed Union's consolation goal in the 78th. Another Union goal in stoppage time was disallowed for offside.
Union Berlin now has 32 points, six ahead of FC St. Pauli in the relegation playoff spot. It was their fifth straight loss and seventh in the last ten games. The crisis led to the sacking of coach Steffen Baumgart about two weeks ago; Marie-Louise Eta took over as the Bundesliga's first female head coach.
RB Leipzig solidifies third place and its path to Champions League qualification. With VfB Stuttgart and FC Bayern München in the DFB-Pokalfinale, Leipzig has secured at least Europa League.
