Enrique Krauss, former interior minister under Aylwin, dies at 94

Christian Democrat politician Enrique Krauss Rusque died on Friday at age 94. His wake took place on Saturday in Santiago, where he received tributes from figures including President José Antonio Kast and former President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle.

Krauss held key posts during Chile’s transition to democracy. He served as economy minister under Eduardo Frei Montalva and as interior minister under Patricio Aylwin, where he also acted as vice president of the republic.

President José Antonio Kast said “Chile has to thank him for all the actions he took for our nation.” He also highlighted Krauss’s volunteer work as a firefighter and his support for Colo-Colo.

Former President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle recalled their friendship and Krauss’s role in the transition. “He fulfilled the highest functions for the benefit of our country,” said Biminister Claudio Alvarado, who also attended the wake.
