Following a serious traffic accident with three fatalities in central Franconia, Federal Road B2 near Pleinfeld is now open again. The stretch south of Nuremberg was closed until late evening. Police reported that traffic has been flowing since 11 p.m.
On Sunday afternoon, a serious accident occurred on Federal Road B2 near Pleinfeld, involving multiple vehicles. According to police reports, one car swerved to avoid a tow truck on the shoulder. At the same time, another vehicle veered into oncoming traffic during a lane change and collided with an approaching car.
Five people were in one of the involved vehicles. Three of them—two women and a four-year-old child—died at the scene. Another woman and a toddler suffered severe injuries and were airlifted to a hospital. Later, two more cars crashed into the accident site, but there were no additional serious injuries.
The federal road remained fully closed until late evening. Police cleared the area and announced at 11 p.m. that the route was open again. The incident took place in central Franconia, south of Nuremberg, significantly disrupting regional traffic.
