The Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved on Thursday the idea of legislating the national reconstruction megareform project. The initiative advanced with eight votes in favor from ruling party lawmakers, four against and one abstention from the PDG.

The vote took place amid tensions. Opposition lawmakers criticized the committee president, Agustín Romero, for speeding up the process and not postponing the decision as agreed. The favorable votes came from Agustín Romero, José Carlos Meza, Felipe Ross, Eduardo Durán, Diego Schalper, Jaime Coloma, Flor Weisse and Pier Karlezi.

Against were Boris Barrera, Carlos Bianchi, Jorge Brito and Priscilla Castillo. Zandra Parisi of the PDG abstained. Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz valued the result as a solid starting point and highlighted talks with the PDG to broaden support.

The deadline for amendments was set until Monday at noon. The particular vote will begin on Tuesday. The ruling coalition seeks to send the bill to other committees between May 14 and 15 so it can be voted on in the chamber on May 18 or 19.
