Morena sets fast-track route to approve Sheinbaum judicial reform

Morena and its allies in the Chamber of Deputies have designed an accelerated schedule to approve the judicial counter-reform ordered by President Claudia Sheinbaum. The process aims to finish before the end of May 2026.

The plan sets that the presidential initiative will be formally received on Thursday May 21 in the Permanent Commission of Congress. This will lead to an extraordinary session period in the last week of May.

The vote in committees of the Chamber of Deputies is scheduled for Tuesday May 26 and in the full chamber for Wednesday May 27. The same day it would be sent to the Senate for approval.

State congresses would then vote on Thursday May 28 and the constitutional declaration would be issued on Friday May 29. Deputy Ricardo Monreal explained that the goal is to defer the judicial elections from June 2027 to June 2028.
