Band Lineup and Evolution
The current lineup includes founders Niko Hienonen on vocals and orchestrations, Kalle Pöyskö on guitars, and Toni Tieaho on guitars, formerly of Mors Principium Est and Crystalic. Formed in 2017 as a studio project, KARU released their debut EP in 2020 and first full-length, HYDRA, in April 2024. Work on Perdition began before HYDRA's release, with completion in summer 2025 following lineup adjustments.
Background and Reception
Drawing from Japanese spiritual folklore, the album pushes KARU's fusion of raw emotion and beauty. It has garnered attention for its atmosphere, similar to works by Wintersun, Nightwish, and Children of Bodom. The band, now a live act since 2023, seeks to expand its reach beyond Finland through this energetic release.
