Helber Yesid Pinzón Saavedra, former mayor of Palermo, voluntarily surrendered on Tuesday in Garzón after evading justice for four years.
Pinzón Saavedra arrived at the SIJIN facilities in Garzón. The surrender was immediately notified to the Juzgado Primero Penal del Circuito de Neiva.
The former official faces two convictions for crimes against public administration. The first sentence is 19 years and two months in prison for improperly investing 2,000 million pesos of royalties in the firm Tigsa.
The second conviction imposes 17 years and two months in prison for an irregular procedure to sell two lots. Both sentences are under cassation appeal before the Corte Suprema de Justicia.
