French WTA player Sarah Rakotomanga undergoes knee surgery

Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah has undergone knee surgery days after her Wimbledon qualifying exit. The 20-year-old French player announced the procedure on Instagram and said she will miss several months of competition.

The world No. 165 posted a hospital photo showing her bandaged knee and wrote that a chapter had closed. She added that recovery, patience and hard work now lie ahead.

Sarah last competed at Wimbledon, where she lost in the second round of qualifying to Zhu Lin. Her most recent title came at the WTA 250 event in Sao Paulo last year.

The injury adds to difficulties for French players on the WTA Tour. Varvara Gracheva remains sidelined after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament during training in March.
