Garrett Crochet updates injury timeline for Red Sox return

Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet said he is getting close to throwing again but does not expect to return before the All-Star break. The left-hander has been sidelined by a left lat strain and ongoing shoulder issues.

Crochet spoke on June 12 about his recovery. He has not thrown a ball in two or three weeks after a shutdown caused by the lat strain.

He went on the 15-day injured list April 29 with left shoulder inflammation and was moved to the 60-day list June 5. After throwing one inning of live batting practice May 26, further sessions were canceled when the lat issue appeared on an MRI.

Crochet clarified that earlier comments referred mainly to his shoulder capsule. The lat strain itself resolved within four or five days, but the team is monitoring both areas to avoid compensatory patterns.

Once cleared, he will begin a standard progression of catch, bullpen work, live batting practice and a minor-league rehab assignment. Teammates Sonny Gray, Ranger Suarez, Payton Tolle and Connelly Early have filled in during his absence.
