The Gran Desfile Mundialista takes place this Saturday, June 13, starting at 13:00 in Mexico City. The free event covers three kilometers from the Diana Cazadora to the Monumento a la Revolución.
The Mexico City government organizes the parade as part of the Fiesta del Mundial. The route features floats inspired by Día de Muertos, folk dances and tributes to Pelé and Diego Armando Maradona.
Mexico City head of government Clara Brugada said the event aims to showcase Mexican roots. “We want a parade of our roots, a parade that respects the original peoples,” she commented.
Authorities recommend alternate routes such as Circuito Interior and Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas due to closures on Paseo de la Reforma. The parade is part of more than one thousand activities in the Fiesta del Mundial.
