Mexico City breaks Guinness record with massive human wave

Mexico City set a new Guinness record on Saturday with the largest human wave performed in a public space, surpassing Lisbon's previous mark.

The event took place on Paseo de la Reforma and began around 10:30 a.m. Tens of thousands of people joined the festive activity, which featured flags and the green colors of the Mexican national team. Mexico City tourism secretary Alejandra Frausto stated: “Logramos la ola más grande del mundo”. Guinness World Records judges attended to verify the official number of participants. The prior record dated to 2007, when Lisbon gathered more than eight thousand people. Mexico's team will debut on June 11 against South Africa in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup, hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada.
