He Bled Neon unveils first look before SXSW premiere

The crime thriller He Bled Neon, starring Joe Cole and Rita Ora, has shared its first-look images and announced a world premiere at the 2026 SXSW Film & TV Festival. Directed by Drew Kirsch, the film follows a man returning to Las Vegas to uncover truths about his brother's death. Cole appears alongside co-stars including Marshawn Lynch in the promotional shots.

He Bled Neon centers on Ethan, played by Joe Cole, a former street kid who has built a successful life in Los Angeles, complete with a dream partner and a job at a real estate firm. The story unfolds when Ethan receives a text about his brother's overdose, shattering his vow never to return home and drawing him back to Las Vegas to investigate what may actually be murder.

"After learning that his brother’s death may be murder, Ethan returns to Las Vegas to uncover the truth, and confront the violent past he buried," the synopsis states. The logline adds: "When he gets a text saying his brother overdosed, the promise he made to never return home shatters, pulling him back into the world he thought he’d escaped."

Directed by Drew Kirsch from a screenplay by Tim Cairo and Jake Gibson, the film features a cast including Rita Ora, Marshawn Lynch, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Paul Wesley, and Josh Holloway. Cole and Lynch also serve as executive producers. The first-look images, released by the festival, show Cole with Ora and Lynch.

Originally announced in April 2024 with British actor Jack O'Connell in the cast alongside Ora, the project saw O'Connell depart and Paul Wesley step in as his replacement.

He Bled Neon will premiere on March 16, 2026, at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival in the Narrative Spotlight section. This comes as Cole's recent Netflix release, the real-life drama A Prayer Before Dawn, gained attention last month.
