Honey Lauren’s intersex-themed drama Mistake is set to screen this Saturday as part of New Filmmakers Los Angeles InFocus: LGBTQ+ Cinema program during Pride Month.
Lauren wrote, directed, and co-stars in the film, which also features Dominic Bogart, Jiji Hise, Brett Cullen and Kay Lenz. The drama won Best Inspirational Feature at the Sedona International Film Festival.
Set across 1941 and 1971 in the American South, Mistake follows Larry Benson, a person born intersex, through years of hormone treatment and family control. It explores themes of identity, alienation and social expectations.
“Mistake is a bit of my own story too,” Lauren said. The film previously screened as the opening night selection at the Tulipani di Seta Nera International Social Cinematography Festival in Rome, where it received the Sorriso per la Cultura Internazionale Award.
Mistake was shot in Los Angeles, Kentucky and Tennessee. It is produced by Brad Wyman, Davey Robertson, Erik Bakken and David Shultz, with Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films serving as sales representative.
