Hugh Jackman said he intends to continue portraying Wolverine as long as Marvel Studios allows it. The 57-year-old actor expressed hope that his successor will bring a fresh take to the role.
Jackman told Project Big Screen that he plans to keep playing the X-Men character well into his later years. “I’m 57. I’m doing it till I’m 90,” he said. He added that he will not offer guidance to the next actor.
The Oscar nominee originated the live-action Wolverine role in the 2000 film X-Men and has appeared in multiple sequels since then. He noted that no one gave him direction when he started and that he hopes the next performer will make the character their own.
Jackman’s comments come as other X-Men cast members, including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, prepare to reprise their roles in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on Dec. 18, 2026.
