Hugo Fransson to stay with HV71 despite NHL interest

HV71 defenseman Hugo Fransson has announced plans to remain with the club for the coming season. The 21-year-old made the statement days before the June 15 NHL signing deadline.

Fransson broke through with HV71 last season after two years on loan in HockeyAllsvenskan. He finished with 26 points in 52 games and ranked sixth among SHL defensemen with 11 goals.

Interest from NHL clubs emerged during the season, yet no new developments have occurred. Fransson told Jönköpings-Posten he has heard nothing new and intends to play for HV71 next year.

The player welcomed the chance to continue developing with the team. He highlighted excitement over a new coach and incoming players as the club prepares for the season.

Fransson has appeared in 114 SHL games for HV71 in total, along with 51 matches in HockeyAllsvenskan.
