Jack Berglund will remain in Sweden with Färjestad for the upcoming season rather than joining the Philadelphia Flyers in North America.
The 20-year-old forward and former junior world championship captain confirmed the decision in an interview with Värmlands Folkblad. He said he plans to play for Färjestad starting August 3 after discussions with the Flyers organization.
Berglund signed a rookie contract with Philadelphia earlier this year. He noted that both sides agreed another year in Sweden would help his development.
The player also trains during the summer in Karlstad alongside NHL players including Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson. Berglund reacted to the recent offer sheet involving Carlsson by calling it a shock that came out of nowhere.
He expressed hope that the two could one day become teammates in Philadelphia and joked that he would not need to bring his wallet if they go out to dinner together.
