Jannik Sinner, the current ATP world No. 1, will compete at the Madrid Open, the fourth Masters 1000 event of the season. Tennis journalist Jose Morgado reported the entry on April 18, noting Sinner's intent to become the first player to win five Masters 1000 titles in a row. This follows his title run at Monte Carlo, where he beat Alcaraz 7-6, 6-3 in the final for his fourth straight crown, matching feats by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in past years. Last season, a three-month anti-doping suspension sidelined him from the event after a 2024 failed test, but he returns with momentum from the Sunshine Double at Indian Wells and Miami, both won without dropping a set. Sinner has collected seven of the nine ATP Masters 1000 titles, missing only Madrid and the Italian Open. He is expected to play Rome afterward, where he reached the final in 2025. Italian legend Adriano Panatta voiced support, saying, “I believe Jannik can win both Rome and Roland Garros this year. His game on red clay has improved considerably.” Alcaraz, sidelined by a wrist injury from Barcelona, and Djokovic will skip Madrid, giving Sinner a favorable draw ahead of the French Open.
