Former player John McEnroe has shared his disappointment that Carlos Alcaraz missed the French Open and will also skip Wimbledon due to injury.
McEnroe made the comments on the Off Court with Greg Rusedski podcast. He said he felt depressed and disappointed that Alcaraz was not at Roland Garros, calling the Spaniard the best representative for the sport.
Alcaraz has been sidelined for almost two months with wrist tenosynovitis, an injury sustained at his home event in Barcelona. The 23-year-old has missed the Madrid and Italian Open Masters events as well as the French Open, marking his first absence from two consecutive Grand Slams.
The injury has also affected his ranking. Alcaraz currently sits at world number two but faces further point deductions for missing Wimbledon. McEnroe noted that Alcaraz's absence opened opportunities for other players at the French Open and could do the same at Wimbledon.
