Former Formula 1 driver Jolyon Palmer has criticised Williams for continued underperformance despite recent upgrades. He argued that Carlos Sainz is struggling to lead the team forward.
Jolyon Palmer made the comments on the F1 Nation podcast. He said Sainz is getting nowhere in efforts to improve the team after an upgraded front wing on the FW48 failed to deliver expected gains at the British Grand Prix.
Palmer noted that Williams has a Mercedes power unit that is winning the championship. He pointed out that other teams have performed better with the same unit and criticised the pace of development at the Grove-based team.
Sainz joined Williams in 2025 after Lewis Hamilton moved to Ferrari. Palmer said the Spaniard had other options but chose Williams for its long-term plans. Williams currently sits eighth in the Constructors' Championship with 11 points after nine rounds.
