Mexican actor José Ángel Bichir was rushed to the hospital after falling from the third floor of a building in Mexico City. Initial reports suggest a possible suicide attempt, with injuries to his face and abdomen. The incident has revived memories of his past relationship with singer Belinda.
José Ángel Bichir, son of actor Odiseo Bichir and nephew of Demián and Bruno Bichir, was found unconscious on Calle Uxmal and Avenida Xola, in the Narvarte Poniente neighborhood of Benito Juárez borough, Mexico City. According to a report from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the actor lives on the third floor of the apartment complex from which he apparently jumped into the void. SSC officers found him and called emergency services, who transferred him to Hospital Rubén Leñero for medical attention. Paramedics diagnosed a facial fracture and acute abdomen. His mother arrived at the scene, identified him to authorities, and required care for a nervous breakdown. The family has not issued a public statement.
Initial reports suggest a suicide attempt, though those close to him have not confirmed it. The incident occurred recently, and social media has shared photos and videos of emergency personnel at the site.
The event has recalled the relationship Bichir had with singer Belinda in 2022. In March 2023, during the red carpet for HBO Max's Mariachis series, the actor clarified he never denied the romantic link. “I have never denied when asked about a relationship because I wouldn't, because I am a being who likes to speak the truth,” he said. He explained that he signed a confidentiality contract in 2022, possibly during the filming of Divina Comida, where they coincided. “They say I said I absolutely deny a relationship with Belinda; I never did that, I wouldn't, but I can't talk about it because I signed a confidentiality contract,” he added. They knew each other from childhood and shared credits in the soap opera Aventuras en el tiempo, where he played Príncipe Quetzalpilli.
Bichir, who began his career as a teenager, has participated in productions like Matando Cabos, Sexo y otros secretos, Tlatelolco, verano del 68, and Vencer la Culpa, where he portrayed Nicolás Alcaráz. In another press encounter in 2023, he reflected on love: “The heart is the heart, but they say out there that when a man loves well, he never forgets those people.” He expressed no regret about the relationship, viewing it as a necessary human experience.
